The fellowships carry a three-year appointment with a starting salary of $65,000 per annum and a modest amount of independent funds. Candidates should be at a maximum three years past receipt of the Ph.D.
BNL is an internationally recognized multidisciplinary laboratory carrying out basic and applied research in physics, biomedical and environmental sciences and in selected energy technologies. Although candidates are sought to participate in any discipline and aspect of research at the Laboratory, they are especially sought to work in the following areas:
Accelerator Physics - Work in collaboration with members of the National Synchrotron Light Source and Collider Accelerator Departments on various aspects of the Photo-injected Energy Recovering Linac. High-brightness and high-power electron beams provide for potential applications that involve high-energy electron cooling of ion beams, a sub-picosecond light-source, and a high luminosity electron-ion collider.
Atmospheric Sciences - Work in collaboration with members of the Atmospheric Sciences Division to develop cutting edge methodologies in theory, modeling, or measurement, to gain a quantitative understanding of the distributions of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols and their environmental impacts, ranging from human health to climate change.
Structural Biology - Work in collaboration with members of the Biology and Medical Departments to identify and isolate large DNA damage repair complexes and characterize their interactions.
Qualified candidates should send a letter of intent outlining research interests and objectives, CV, a list of publications, and names and contact information of three referees to Dr. Leonard Newman, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Bldg. 815E, PO Box 5000, Upton, New York 11973-5000 (e-mail: newman@bnl.gov). Please refer to the Laboratory's webpage: www.bnl.gov for more information about the Laboratory.
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is proud to announce the Gertrude and Maurice Goldhaber Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships Program, newly established with funding from Battelle Memorial Institute and Stony Brook University. These prestigious Fellowships are awarded to candidates with exceptional talent and credentials and a strong desire to conduct independent research at the frontiers of their fields.
